Budapest Zen Center
As detailed below, every Monday and Wednesday we have Zen meditation practice at our Budapest Zen Center including instructions for beginners.
Chong An Sunim leads the pracrtice on Wednesdays with long chants and 30-minute sittings.
Dok Hae Sunim leads the practice on Monday with short chants and 50-minute sittings.
Before practice beings, we all begin our gathering at 5 pm with a cup of tea for everyone. This is a good time to join us for those who have questions or want to have some informal conversation.
Instructions for beginners start at 5:30.
Formal practice begins at 6:30pm sharp. Be there at least 10-15 minutes before we begin. Location: 1062 Budapest, Rippl-Rónai u. 40. Choose the gate on the right side, doorbell 7. After about 15 meters, turn right and enter another gate using number 7 again. Go up the stairs, through the white door, turn right at the corridor. A few more steps, then you see a doormat on the walkway and another white door on your right.
Practice is scheduled to end at 9pm, though due to the number of people taking kongan interviews, this can extend 30-50 minutes easily. You may leave earlier if necessary during walking meditation. Do not interrupt sitting with your departure.
On Sundays we use another location for our practice, Sadhana Yoga and Spiritual Center (1063 Budapest, Szív utca 39/A) You need to sign up for this with the practice leader. Sessions begin at 3 pm, please arrive at least 30 minutes early to have some tea and ask your questions if any, or just tune in for meditation before it begins. We have 2x30 minutes with a short break in between. If you are a beginner, please indicate that when you sign up, instructions commence at 2 pm.
Please always wear socks when you enter the Dharma Room. Also, be mindful not to wear 1) athlete's shirt or other sleeveless shirt, 2) deep-cut shirt/blouse, 3) ponchos or other loosely hanging dress, 4) trousers not reaching below the knees, 5) skirts, 6) tight trousers and shirts (stretch fabric), 7) anything with pictures, ads, posters, slogans or logos, and 8) overly bright colors. Thank you for your cooperation.
There is no fixed charge for your participation, however, please help the temple with the donation you can afford.
